Pastor Tim Newbon : CEO/Founder, Barbara Newbon : CFO
Tim and Barbara Newbon are originally from Florida. Tim serves as Executive Director and president of Teen Challenge Georgia International, Inc. He attended Florida A & M University School of Business, is a licensed Minister, Pastoral Counselor and Teacher.
Barbara has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business and Fashion Merchandising from Florida State University.
Tim and Barbara met in college and married three years later in 1982. During the earlier years of their marriage, Tim struggled secretly with drugs. Tim’s addiction to crack caused an enormous amount of stress on their marriage, which caused Barbara to walk away from the marriage in 1985.
Through the efforts of a Teen Challenge program, Tim overcame drug addiction and developed a great love for God and zeal for helping those that are hurting. In 1989, after completing the program, he went on to serve as a staff member in the positions of Intern, Counselor, Director of Development and Men’s Program Director. It was during this time, God restored Tim & Barbara’s marriage, separated from each other for 4 years and 3 years of being divorced.
After seeing firsthand what the Teen Challenge program can do, Tim took up the cause with his wife Barbara of 33 years. In 1997, by faith, they relocated from Florida to Georgia to start a Teen Challenge program for men. The doors of that facility opened for resident in 2001. Since then, they both serve full time as Executive Directors of the state of Georgia and are committed to helping those in the state overcome life controlling addictions. They established two additional centers in Stone Mountain, for Men. In the summer of 2006, with staff members already in place, Teen Challenge Georgia International opened a center in Athens for young girls ages 13-17. Plans are being made to open others centers throughout the state of Georgia, such as Loganville Ga.
Assistant Director Brandon Western was born in Mississippi and moved just north of Atlanta, GA in the early 1990’s.
